What is an air purifier?

Tuesday, May 24, 2022

There are many different sources of air pollution, both indoors and out. There are primary sources of air pollution, such as industry and road traffic. Secondary sources of air pollution are chemical reactions between pollutants, natural sources of pollution, those linked to human activities, etc. Polluted air is a source of disease and infection for animals and humans alike. That's why air purifiers are used to clean up the environment and ensure healthy air. What do you need to know about air purifiers?

What is an air purifier?

Polluted and toxic air has negative and harmful effects on our health. This is why the use of a purifier becomes a necessity. Its role and purpose is to purify and purify the air of a home or premises. It is also used to purify outdoor air. Its use removes toxic substances and molecules from the air, such as VOCs, odors, bacteria, dust mites, animal hair, etc.

An air purifier is a device that captures the air with its impurities, gets rid of them and releases clean air into the environment or a room. The device filters particles from the air, ensuring that all users can enjoy healthy air. By using a purifier, users can reduce the risk of respiratory illnesses.

This filtration system is made possible by the various filters fitted to the unit. There are three types of filter, the most common of which are: the pre-filter, which gets rid of dust and pollutants; the carbon filter, which eliminates gaseous pollutants down to 3 microns; and HEPA filters, which get rid of the finest particles. Other air purification technologies are also available.

Air purifier operating technologies

There are several types of air purifier, depending on the technology used to clean the air. The best-known models are those with filters. However, there are also different air purifier technologies on the market:

  • Ozone and plasma air purification. In this case, free radicals sent into the air cause oxidation between the air and the pollutants, thus getting rid of them.
  • Ultraviolet air purification. UVC and UVV are sent into the air, removing all harmful particles, VOCs, chemical pollutants, allergenic substances, etc.
  • Absorption air purifiers. This treatment uses reactive compounds to bind pollutants.
  • Ionization air purifiers. With this technology, negative ions are sent into the air to bind particles. This forms heavy associations that fall to the ground and can be vacuumed away.
  • Photocatalysis and simple combustion air purifiers. One purifies the air using a light source, while the other eliminates pollutants from the air. In the case of combustion, the device's resistance is heated to 200°C, eliminating micro-organisms.

Each of these purification technologies has its advantages and disadvantages. What's more, they are adapted to specific uses, whether in the home, in industry or outdoors. To make the right choice, you need to take into account your specific needs.

Why use an air purifier at home or at work?

Today, there's more than one reason to have an air purifier in your home or business. The air we breathe every day, especially in big cities, is polluted by human activities, industrial operations and all the chemical particles that enter the air.

What's more, most respiratory illnesses and infections are due to the presence of these pollutants in the air. Allergies and respiratory disorders can be avoided if the ambient air is healthy. That's why the use of an air purifier in your home or business is of the utmost importance.

It purifies the air both indoors and out, ensuring that everyone using a room benefits from fresh, healthy air. Some models combine air purification with air conditioning.

How much should you pay for a high-performance air purifier?

The price of an air purifier depends on several factors. You need to consider the purification technology used on the unit, its dimensions, purification flow rate, performance, features and so on. Once you've determined your needs, you can choose the device that best suits your budget.

There are air purifier price comparisons you can use online to find the model that's right for your needs and the space you want to purify.
